The retainer is the final stage of orthodontic treatment, designed to fix the results and maintain a beautiful smile. It is a removable orthodontic appliance, made based on the patient’s dental impressions. The retainer is worn after the removal of braces and other orthodontic procedures to prevent teeth from returning to their previous positions.
The retainer helps keep teeth in the new position to which they were aligned with braces. Without it, the teeth may begin returning to their original positions, a process known as relapse. The retainer prevents this. In other words, the retainer is part of the treatment process and helps to finally secure the results.
Your dentist at ID Dent will explain in more detail how and why to wear the retainer, and how to care for it during a personal consultation in the clinic. You can book this consultation right now by phone.
