X-ray is an essential part of dental diagnostics, enabling early-stage detection and accurate diagnosis. Treatment often requires multiple subsequent X-rays.
At the ID Dent clinic, you can get any dental X-ray images necessary for effective dental treatment. The images provide valuable information to the doctor about the condition of the oral cavity, enabling the correct diagnosis or cavity detection in inaccessible areas. Dental X-rays are also necessary for root canal treatment, orthodontic planning, and implants.
Orthopantomogram
An orthopantomogram is a panoramic dental X-ray that allows for diagnosing issues with the dental arch. A panoramic X-ray is taken using a special machine that reveals:
- teeth
- bone tissue of the upper and lower jaw
- temporomandibular joint
- maxillary sinuses
The image shows dental structures enlarged by an average of 15 percent, making all the anatomical structures of the alveolar processes clearly visible. Based on the orthopantomogram, ID Dent clinic dentists can accurately assess periodontal conditions, identify root structure deviations, and verify the presence of impacted teeth.
Dental CT Scan
Dental CT provides a three-dimensional view of your teeth structures, root canals, bone tissue condition, inflammation, granulomas, and cysts. Unlike panoramic X-rays, this diagnostic method offers more detailed information, allowing proper planning for implants and orthodontic treatment while excluding potential complications.
Why Perform Dental X-ray? Benefits
- The process is completely painless.
- Takes only a few minutes, including patient preparation.
- X-rays are completely safe.
- Diagnoses allow detecting hidden diseases and conditions.
- X-ray serves as a basis for the doctor’s diagnosis.
- Facilitates preparation for surgical interventions, implant treatment, and prosthetics.
Dental X-ray – Indications for Examination
X-ray diagnostics are necessary before installing an orthodontic device. The dentist may refer the patient to an X-ray for accurate jaw injury diagnosis. Indications for dental X-ray also include:
- deep cavities
- periodontal disease
- planned orthodontic treatment
- installation of dental implants
- tooth extraction, especially for impacted or obstructed teeth
Sometimes a jaw X-ray and panoramic photo are required for extraoral surgical procedures. An orthopantomogram may be essential for eye surgeries to rule out inflammation.
How Dental X-ray Examination Works
Preparing for dental X-rays is easy for patients. Remove all metal objects like earrings, chains, piercings, or removable prostheses before the examination. The doctor performing the dental X-ray provides a special vest for protection against radiation. Our modern equipment allows us to take accurate 3D and 2D X-ray images in our Kyiv-based clinic. Patients stand near the machine, head under the camera, holding a special sensor for accurate shots.
What are the Contraindications for Dental X-rays
Not all patients can undergo X-rays due to contraindications. X-rays might endanger pregnant women and their future infants. Chronic diseases or other conditions aren’t absolute barriers when using modern equipment. Despite the potential health risks, X-rays used for dental imaging apply safe radiation doses. If one tooth photo might not suffice, immediately get an orthopantomogram or dental CT for more comprehensive information about teeth and periodontium condition.
